What kind of plants will work on other planets? Genetic engineering is a given, it exists, it will be used. The fear is that it will be used as a weapon, Or its effects won't be expected. Anything can be used as a weapon, The attitude that life is without value needs to be changed. Not the means restricted. If we design with purpose in mind, We should be able to create what we need. Not the frankenstein monsters of our fears. THE ONLY THING THAT SHOULD BE OUTLAWED IS: MONOPOLIES ON HUMANITIES FOOD SUPPLY, BY GREEDY CORPORATIONS OR ALIENS with potentials extermination ideas. FOODS THAT CAN NOT REPRODUCE IN A NORMAL ENVIRONMENT THAT WE BECOME DEPENDENT ON. THE MONSANTO CONNECTION SIGNATORIUM When I spent a year in the woods by myself, I observed some odd facts. Plants that provided basic needs had visual indicators-like the "eye" of a carrot. Sometimes as a warning, such as the veins in foxglove, a source of digitalis. It is a medicine, but an overdose can kill you. If you were reseeding a planet after an "ELE" it would be logical to design signals that could be understood by the surviving remnants of humanity. Education would not be a given, only basic intelligence. The same logic applies to genetic engineering for other planets. IE. 5 lobed leaves indicates it is for mans use. Blackberries, Maples, grape etc. Maximum Usage is the next factor. Their is no reason not to use the entire plant. Typha Latifolia, Cattails, are a good example of maximum usage. The roots can be ground into flour, The tuber substitutes for a potato, The lower stalk is a peppery substitute for celery. The head stem can be used for an arrow, The leaves can be used to make baskets, mats, walls, etc. The green head is like corn on the cob, or avacado, the ripe head can be used for a torch or bedding. The pollen is high in vitamin D and can be added to the "root flour". There is also a mucilage aspect for thickening soups. Cattail stalks and the snails that live on the stalks, + salt, makes a delicious soup. In other words a perfect plant, Total usage. For the Tule Indians near Klamath Falls OR. Cattails were their main staple. Its amazing that "White men" totally ignore it. The main functional aspects of all plants, is that they use light, water, and co2 + a small amount of trace elements, to produce hydrocarbon mass and oxygen as a byproduct. We use the O2 directly and should design the hydrocarbon mass for maximum usage. Food, Shelter, Clothing. What else could be grown? Computer chips? A gas filled pod. similar to kelp, for transportation,? Containers, IE. gourds. How about A gourd designed as a plate with an edible center and paper like top Energy source. Could electric eel genes be transferred to a plant? Could a plant be designed that would provide its own light for photosynthesis, And would only need CO2 and water + trace elements? Or used other frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum? What frequencie's does Mars receive the most of? How about Jupiters Magnetosphere? What deep sea plankton uses light to maximum efficiency?
